Welcome to the Drop Dead Hair Family

Only use professional products that have been purchased through your stylist or salon. Never use hair care products purchased from a local grocery store, pharmacy or the like. Even though these products may say "professional" on the label, the majority of them contain many adverse chemicals, sulfates, parabens, silicons and waxes. They will damage your extension by causing them to be dry and brittle. To ensure the health and strength of your extensions, only use true professional products recommended by your stylist.

1. Use professional products only

Hard water, which is common in about 85% of all US households - is the silent killer of all extensions. Do not wash you hair in water that has no been softened. Extensions seem to be more affected by hard water than natural hair as they do not receive the natural oils from the scalp to protect them. Chlorine, calcium, iron, manganese, zinc and copper found in hard water will cause the hair to become dry, brittle, rough, tangly and will even cause the color to shift and fade in a matter of week. If you want to protect your investment, you will need to install a water softening system in your residence. A resin based water softening system needs to be filled with salt quarterly and serviced yearly. Please also note that you should only wash your hair 2x a week maximum.

2. Wash in soft water - Maintain your system

Silk is a natural, smooth, cool fiber. These characteristics make it ideal for preserving extensions, as they prevent sweating and tangling by reducing the heat and friction between your hair and pillow. You should braid you hair in preparation for bed and ensure your hair is completely dry. Sleeping with wet hair can lead to tangles, breakage and mildew.

3. Sleep with a silk pillow case

Brush your hair multiple times per day with a wide tooth detangling comb or paddle brush. To brush your extensions, begin by choosing a small hair section. Hold the base of your extensions firmly with one hand to prevent any tugging or pulling from the scalp. Gently brush the ends of your hair first, gradually moving up to the roots.

4. Frequently brush your hair

Heat styling your hair will reduce the lifetime of your extensions, When heat styling, never use heat above 275 degrees F to style your hair. If you have any type of oil in your hair while using.a heated tool without heat protectant, your hair will fry just as food does in a fryer.

5. Avoid heat styling - Use heat protectant

Use a moisturizing mask on your hair weekly. In addition, a daily use of a serum or oil on the ends is highly recommended. Beware of using tinted oils on light colored extensions. Ask your stylist which masks and serums they prefer.

6. Frequently hydrate hair with a mask
